Breastfeeding tips: how should you feed your newborn baby?
If you’ve just had a baby, and are unsure of how to feed him/her, leading consultant paediatrician, Dr Dieudonne Birahinduka is on hand to give advice on what to feed, and what age to move on to different foods.
Generally, it is recommended that babies are breastfeed because there are well-known benefits for both the child and mother. However, if breastfeeding is not possible, then we would recommend that babies are fed expressed breastmilk via bottle, and if pumping breastmilk is not possible at all, then we can consider water feeding formula via bottle.
We suggest to parents that babies can begin weaning off breastmilk from six months, starting the transition to solid foods, such as pureed fruit.
